REVIEWS: PLATEAU - ICEOLATOR

PlatEAU
"Iceolator" CD

Reportedly the final release from this Phil Western and cEvin Key project, 'Iceolator' compiles mostly unreleased tracks from sessions dating as far back as 1996. Whereas the duo's other work as DOWNLOAD was usually reserved for more experimental, far-ranging, and perhaps more serious electronic compositions, platEAU was created as an experiment with hypno-trance-techno structures as influenced heavily by the Detroit-via-Berlin 'scene'. Several of the minimalist rhythms of 'Iceolator' are worthy of club consumption, and the playfully freaky-spliffed tracks here are evidence of the Subcon crew letting loose and having fun. Some cool grooves and tweaked atmospheres. A superb release, though at barely over 40 minutes this ride seems to end all too soon. (Subconscious)
